| Mixed feelings, but mostly I liked it | |
| | My feelings about this book were pretty mixed. I really loved the One Skein books and I was hoping for something comparable. This one has some great projects in it, but I wouldn't recommend it for completely new sewers. A lot of the projects were predictable and a bit too easy for an experienced seamstress, so it misses the mark with new sewers and experienced sewers both. It's best for people who are just starting and have the help of a more experienced sewer, or for experienced sewers looking for easy gift and sewing ideas. Since the projects are mostly fairly simple, an experience seamstress could draft patterns using the diagrams and measurements from the Kindle version. If you haven't got experience drafting patterns, get the hard copy, not the Kindle version. For me, this is a decent book with ideas that I can use in my own sewing, but it's not one my daughter who is a beginning sewer could use without my help.
| | Don't make a stupid mistake like I did and buy the Kindle edition | |
| | I'd been wanting this book for awhile and made the not-so-brilliant decision to purchase it electronically, to use with the Kindle for Mac app. The app works fine and I often use it for reading books, but this one it's a real rip-off. Many projects refer to the included pattern, which of course you don't get via Kindle. Dumb mistake I know, just wanting to warn others.
| | Great for the Beginner as well as the Advanced! | |
| | I bought this book looking for a lot of fun projects and a lot of diversity, and that is exactly what I got! Some of the projects are great for beginners, some are more advanced, but the majority of them seem totally "do-able" and useful. I think this would be a great book for beginners, because of the diversity of projects and simple instructions. There is something for everyone: storage, clothing, handbags, pets, and decorating. I love the handbags in this book. The women's clothing section wasn't for me (I am not going to wear the majority of styles featured) but I could easily sew any of these styles for friends and family. I am looking forward to the "2nd" version of this book!
| | Cute ideas, no pictures in instructions :( | |
| | I've tagged quite a few projects that I want to make and finally made one tonight. The problem is, there are no pictures to help explain the instructions. I was able to make the bag based on the picture of the finished project but couldn't really follow what was written. Lots of reviews on here note that they're projects for beginners but I'd be wary...
| | | I'm always taking on a new craft or project and as a result I'm always receiving books like this with crafts or projects on them. Some are much better than others. But when I got into this book I thought there may just be to many projects I want to do. It's great there is something for everyone. Many are even quick easy projects.
